Trial is the monthly journal of the American Association for Justice (“AAJ”), formerly the American Trial Lawyers Association (“ATLA”). Its issue for September 2015 is entitled “SETTLEMENT & NEGOTIATION”.

September 2015 Trial features 4 notable vehicle accident cases in its “Verdicts & Settlements”. Id. at 8-16. The first is “Trucker Strikes Cyclist, Causing Catastrophic Injuries,” reporting a $21,000,000.00 Virginia settlement. Id. at 8, 10. The second, “Failure to Reduce Speed,” covers a $1,100,000.00 California settlement. Id. at 10. The third, “Multi-Car Collision Disfigures Passenger,” highlights a $3,000,000.00 New Jersey jury award. Id. at 10, 12.

Fourth in September 2015 Trial is “Nursing Facility Sent Home Intoxicated Employee, Leading to Fatal Collision”. That marques companion awards totaling $16,730,000.00 by a Texas jury for the wrongful death of a father and personal injuries of his wife and of their two children. Before trial, the nursing facility employing the drunk offending motorist offered only $100,000.00 in settlement. Id. at 12, 14, 16.
