Trial is the monthly journal of American Association for Justice (“AAJ”). Its issue for July, 2015, covers “DRUGS & DEVICES”.
AAJ’s July 2015 Trial features 3 articles about product liability that also implicate medical malpractice: “The HIDDEN DANGERS of Power Morcellators,” id. at 16-24; “THE INS & OUTS OF VACCINE INJURY CASES,” id. at 26-34; and “TAKING ON INFUSE AND PREEMPTION”. Id. at 44-52. Also, a Trial short, “Medical Errors and the July Effect,” notes that a 2011 review of 39 studies in Annals of Internal Medicine concludes “mortality increases and efficiency decreases in hospitals because of year-end chargeovers [in new residents and fellows]”. Id. at 62.
Another journal statistical finding in the same Trial short is even more disturbing about medical malpractice and wrongful death. “An estimated 440,000 people are killed every year by preventable medical errors, according to a 2013 study in the Journal of Patient Safety”. Id.
