Virginia: Car Accidents – a Lawyer Crashes

Trial is the monthly journal of the American Association for Justice (“AAJ”), formerly the American Trial Lawyers Association (“ATTA”). Its issue for March, 2017, is emblazoned “MANAGING YOUR LAW PRACTICE”.

“Verdicts & SETTLEMENTS” of this month’s Trial reports four vehicle crash cases: (1) “Vicarious liability for delivery person’s negligence” is a $46,000,000.00 2016 California jury award for amputation, id. at 16; “Driving while intoxicated” is a $12,900,000.00 2016 Kentucky jury award for wrongful death, id. ; (3) “Improper lookout at intersection” is a $985,900.00 2016 California jury award, id. at 17; and (4) “Failure to maintain lane after turning” is a $10,500,000.00 2016 California settlement for brain injury. Id.

March 2016 Trial also reports two medical malpractice cases under “Verdicts & SETTLEMENTS”. They are: (1) “Administration of prescribed opiates leads to overdose,” a $20,000,000.00 2016 Alabama jury award for wrongful death, id. at 14; and (2) “Late diagnosis of aortic dissection” is a $925,000.00 2016 Illinois settlement. Id. at 16.
