Trial is the monthly law journal of the American Association for Justice {“AAJ”), formerly the American Trial Lawyers Association (“ATLA”).  Its issue for December, 2017, is entitled “Protecting the Elderly”.

December 2017 Trial features 2 medical malpractice articles.  The first is Resident-on-Resident Assaults in Nursing Homes,” id. at 38-43; the second, “LIABILITY for Hospice Facilities”. Id. at 44-49”.

Trial also reports 7 vehicle accident cases in its “Verdicts & Settlements”.  In “Street sweeper makes unsafe turn, striking and injuring motorist,” a 2017 California jury awarded $8,440,000.00 for personal injuries.  Id. at 10, 12. “Pickup strikes convenience store patron” is a 2017 Colorado $1,720,000.00 personal injury jury award.  Id. at 12.  “Intoxicated driver causes head-on collision” is a 2017 Georgia $5,350,000.00 wrongful death jury award.  Id. at 12, 14. “Fire truck driver fails to yield to oncoming traffic” is a 2017 Washington $9,500,000.00 wrongful death jury award.  Id. at 14.  “Bus driver strikes pedestrian in crosswalk” is a 2017 Illinois $6,000,000.00 personal injury settlement.  Id.  “Police chase leads to child’s death in collision” is a 2017 Illinois $1,280,000.00 personal injury settlement. Id. at 14, 16.  Finally, “Failure to remain awake during transport” is a 2017 Minnesota $400,000.00 personal injury jury award.  Id. at 18.
